A Glimpse into our Classroom
Our Class Animal Dollars:
Kindergartners are “Penguins”
First Graders are “Giraffes”
Second Graders are “Lions”
Each student starts with three animal dollars per day (Monday-Friday). See the “Welcome Letter” page for more information on how these are utilized in our class.
Students save up their animal dollars and store them in the baggie in front of their desk. Each Friday they have an opportunity to spend animal dollars at the class store or save them up for bigger prizes.
Our Class Pets: The Lion and the Lamb visit students who are displaying exceptional student characteristics throughout the day.
Our Positive Caterpillar: If the students fill the caterpillar up for showing positive characteristics then they get a special treat on Friday. So far “treats” have included: Hershey Kisses, Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies, Popcorn, and Homemade Pumpkin Muffins. Students enjoy these are we watch our “Fun Friday” Video. As long as students have all their work complete for the week we all enjoy a video together to end a week of hard work.
Our Class Frog: Fully Rely On God
Morning Tasks Visual for the younger students
Class Jobs, Jobs consist of such things as: class meteorologist (reads and reports the weather everyday then records their observations), news carrier (runs with a buddy to the office for such things as copies, errands, etc…), Patriot (holds the class flags for morning pledges), clean-up crew (cleans up after snack or crafts), tool master (responsible for sharpening the pencils twice a day), class librarian (responsible for keeping books and book markers organized), prayer leader (leads our prayer every morning), collection’s officer (responsible for collecting our daily folders), sanitation engineer (responsible for emptying trash in the afternoon and taking it to dumpster), ticket master (responsible for handing out three animal dollars to each student each morning).
our weather center, every morning the “meteorologist” checks the weather and reports the weather here. This is part of our calendar time.
The “I Need Help Please” chart: this chart is used when teacher is busy and a student needs help. Since there are three grade levels in each class…sometimes the teacher is busy with one student or one whole grade. When a student needs help and I (or the teacher assistant) is busy a student places a numbered apple on the chart under their name. When the teacher (or teacher assistant) is free we look to see who needs help in apple number order. This way the student knows that while we are sometimes not able to help immediately we will get to them…this frees the student up to continue working on alternate assignments knowing they will get help.
Class Attendance Pals: When each student comes in, in the morning they check- in (and check out in the afternoon when they go home). This allows the teacher to know who is present.
Our Pledges
