The students completed their positive caterpillar for the week, so for our “Fun Friday” surprise, we made homemade butter. The kids had a blast as they shook and shook the heavy whipping until butter emerged : ) We enjoyed our homemade butter with Italian bread and crackers.

We had read “The Library Mouse” by Daniel Kirk last week. This week we read the second in the series.

Students have been working on learning their states in alphabetical order by singing a song. To go along with the theme, we have been receiving one postcard per week from across the United States. By the end of our study we will collect all 50 postcards representing all 50 states from our friends across the United States. So far we have received Pennsylvania and Delaware. Next week we will study New Jersey.
Study on word families. This is our fishy word families, just like a fish swims with their family… so do our words. The students had to locate which fish went with the family represented. A fun activity : )
Great Job Jaedyn! You wrote all your ABC’s
The first graders have been working on number words and numbers- here is an octopus activity we did to learn this concept.
We studied how to pray:
1. Praise God
2. Confess our sins
3. Thank God
4. Pray for others
5. Pray for self
6. Closing
We also learned J.O.Y:
J: Jesus First
O: Others Second
Y: Yourself Last
The kids have spent quite a bit of time looking for caterpillars during recess (finding many along the way). This has become such an interest that I turned it into a bible study. We made “Gospel Caterpillars” to go along with the “Gospel Story”. Each color on our “Gospel Caterpillars” represented a part of the plan of salvation:
Black : Sin
Red: Christ’s blood
Blue: Baptism
White: We are as washed from sin and are as white as snow because of Christ’s blood
Green: We grow in knowledge and faith through reading the bible daily
Yellow: By living a life of faithfulness we will receive the crown of life

Elyana and Faith’s journals on our study of Johnny Appleseed. Each student is keeping a journal through the year (will be taken home at end of year).

Emma brought in her snow globe from Philadelphia. She explained that she collects snow globes from across the United States each time her family visits a new place (she travels a lot). Cierra brought in her doll baby, which she says she really takes care of.
Anna brought in her Barbie Computer and Ashton brought in his DS.

Students with their first “Show and Tell”. Students really wanted to do a show and tell. They earned a show and tell by filling up their positive caterpillar the week before. The assignment was to bring in something that was very special to you.
The second graders enjoyed their study of math so much they asked if they could bring it to recess! Who was I to say no : )

Sharing our Weather Journals
Hello Parents and Students!
We have been busy as bees this past week as we ventured into the first full week of school. We have been learning lots and all the students have been wonderful.
Kindergarten: Counting (1-10), Colors, Patterns, ABC (Letter Tt and Ii) recognition, Story Time, Shapes (Circle, Square, Rectangle, and Triangle). We also met Farmer Brown, Mrs. Brown, Cheddar, and the Vick Family and Friends.
First Grade: Lesser than and Greater than, Vowels and Consonants, Handwriting Practice, Color Words, Sight Words, Review of 1-100 Number Chart, Single Digit addition, and Word Families (see August 23rd Word List), Initial Letter Sounds (Tt, Ii, Zz and Hh), and journaling. We also met our Character Families.
Second Grade: Sentences (capitalization, ending punctuation marks, sentence subjects and action), Reading and Comprehension, Final Consonants, Handwriting Practice, Long and Short Vowels, journaling, Word Families, Enrichment Words, and Sight Words (see August 23rd Word List). There will be a Spelling Test on Monday. We have also been working on Tallies in Math.
Look at What Else we’re Learning…
All grades are learning about the Days of Creation. All grades have also been learning sign language. First and Second Graders are learning about Weather- ask about our cloud experiment.
Reminders…
Parents please make sure all school supplies have been sent in. Also your children may bring in individual pencil sharpeners (with shaving catchers) to keep at their desk.
I will be sending Homework Assignments home by Monday… Homework is not due back until the next Monday.
